DIY Fruit Snacks

As you can see I've been into the whole DIY thing in the kitchen lately. If you missed last weeks DIY, I made DIY Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal Packets. Go check it out! I found this recipe on Pinterest awhile ago and I'll make these every once in a while. I think these DIY Fruit Snacks are perfect to add to lunches and just keep in the fridge as a quick snack.

What I really love about these fruit snacks is that I know exactly what is in them. I try my best to stay away from processed food. I just don't think it's great to be consuming all those chemicals. Ok, let's head into my kitchen and make...

DIY Fruit Snacks

Printer Friendly

Prep time: 15 minutes Cool time: 1 hour Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Servings: 5 packs with 15 fruit snacks in each

Ingredients

1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1 cup frozen or fresh berries
2 tablespoons honey
1 box gelatin (contains 4 envelopes)

Cookware

Small saucepan
Measuring cup
Large spoon
Tablespoon
Blender
Medium bowl
Whisk
Small rectangular pan

Preparation

1. Pour juice and berries into a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until berries are softened or about 2 minutes.
2. Add 2 tablespoons honey and stir until completely mixed.
3. Puree mixture using a blender.
4. Pour into a medium bowl and let sit for 10 minutes.
5. Slowly pour one envelop of gelatin into bowl while whisking together. Once whisked together, add another envelop of gelatin slowly until all envelops have been added. The mixture should be pretty smooth.
6. Pour mixture into a small rectangle or square pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Cut up and enjoy!

Note: I suggest keeping these either refrigerated or at room temperature. Keep them away from heat because they will melt.

Step-by-Step Photos

Gather ingredients and cookware.

Add 1/2 cup orange juice and 1 cup of fresh or frozen berries to the small saucepan.

Heat on medium high heat until the berries are softened or about 2 minutes.

Add 2 tablespoons of honey and mix it all together.

Pour the mixture into a blender and blend into a puree.

Pour the puree mixture into a medium bowl and let sit for 10 minutes.

Add one pack of gelatin to the mix slowly

Whisk until gelatin is fully mixed in with the puree mixture.

Keep adding the other gelatin packs one at a time and whisking together. The mixture should be pretty smooth. Try to avoid lumps. As you can see I have a few lumps, but I really don't mind them. If you don't want them, just put the mixture back in the blender.

Pour the mixture into a small rectangle or square pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

Cut up into squares or you can get fancy and cut out cute shapes like stars or hearts! I like to split them up into snack bags so they are ready to go. I also store them in the refrigerator, but you can keep them at room temperature. I do suggest to keep them away from heat because they will melt.

Hopefully this will help you save some money from buying all those boxes of fruit snacks. Plus, these are even better for you! What DIY recipes do you have?
